Want to meet this remarkable woman? Suzanne will be the featured guest on June 5th, 2014 as part of the Women of Influence Luncheon Series.

Suzanne is a Native Albertan, and feels very blessed to wake up each morning and marvel that she gets paid for doing what she loves – creating and building things from nothing but an idea; and inspiring people to do what they don’t think is possible.

Coming from humble roots, she put herself through school on scholarships and earned her degree in Chemical Engineering, with distinction, from the University of Calgary.  She did not come from a background of entrepreneurs, nor have any formal training as an entrepreneur.  However, when she found herself as a professional engineer within the limitations of the “command and control” corporate world, she knew that there must be another organizational model that could better inspire people and achieve results.  She tried for several years to change the big companies from within, but finally decided the only real way was to put her money where her heart was.  At the age of 33, she left a promising corporate career, remortgaged her house and started her first oil and gas company. She’s never looked back.

Over the last 15 years, she has built four oil and gas companies from scratch and then sold them; the most recently, for $358 million.  During that time and those experiences she has shown her versatility and consistency by growing multiple companies, with different teams, different finance partners, different banking relationships, and different market conditions; being only one of a few female presidents in a male dominated industry.

She has pioneered and evolved new organizational model, based on the wisdom of Mother Nature, that has no hierarchy and incorporates self-managing, collaboration, transparency, innovation and intuition,.   She cares deeply for people and believes that everyone can be amazing.

Suzanne has a strong ability to see what others might not, and enough boldness to try it.   She believes we are at a critical junction where we must choose a different future; one that is sustainable.  Her next venture is focused on pioneering a new kind of energy company – one that values Planet, People, Profits equally.

She values balance in her life.  In addition to working incredibly hard, she includes fitness, yoga, meditation, journaling, and long walks with her dog.  She has been a fitness instructor for 22 years and teach free outdoor boot-camps in downtown Calgary.

Suzanne believes strongly in gratitude and giving back and that everything we do can make a difference, no matter how big or small.  She has began a charitable foundation that provides significant funds to charities in need.  She organizes and leads the annual charity event ‘Steps to End Homelessness’ combining her love of fitness and philanthropy.  She believes we are here to be joyful, to learn, and to make a positive difference in each other’s lives.

Through her career, Suzanne hopes that she has embodied the characteristics that make women special contributors to the business world.  She vows to continue her lifelong drive to see what is possible for her, for others, for our community and for the world.
